About the Artist
Chris Boissevain is an artist living near Austin and San Antonio, in San Marcos, Texas. He's currently sculpting, painting and designing art prints and NFTs.
His art is informed by the confluence of Asian art, the Bay Area figurative movement, art history, modern art. He spent a few years of his youth, starting at 17, in Kyoto, Japan, living and working with Kanjuro Shibata and his family. Shibata was a traditional bow maker, and he imparted some of the fine craft and the deeply rooted design principle of elegant simplicity that is implicit in Japanese culture.
Then in his 20's, after traveling and working across Asia, he worked and studied in Paris, France, where he attended L 'École des Beaux-Arts as a free student and enjoyed access to the great museums there. He produced murals, portraits, etchings, lithographs.
On returning to California, he built himself a studio and made mixed-media sculpture in various metals, pigmented cement, marble, glass and ceramic in the theme of semi-abstract and surreal figuration as well as serigraphic prints.
He also began an award-winning 25 year industrial design career designing custom and mass-manufactured furniture and, what was at the time, cutting edge LED lighting for international companies. You can see his work here.
He also does digital design, illustration and animation creating content for the company he founded with his wife you can see here.
